Monday morning we woke up at Liard Hot Springs. There’s a quick five minute stroll through the woods along a boardwalk that leads you right up to the hot springs.
Copilot and I tried to step in and the water was unbelievably hot. A nice woman told us to start at the “kiddy pool” on the other end and work our way up. Since this was our first time we didn’t realize that the source of the water that came from one end was much hotter than the other end downstream. Makes sense…
We stayed in for awhile. Copilot got out towards the warmer part and I stayed in chatting with the lady. She told me it was customary for people to make their way to the source and place a rock on it so I did. Boy was it unbearable, and because I got out immediately after, and had’nt had breakfast yet, I passed out. Konk! Right on the deck. Luckily I came to within 30 seconds. Boy was that an experience!
So we immediately went to get breakfast. Figured I needed some food in me ASAP. At 11am we checked out and continued on the Alaskan Highway to Watson Lake. We saw many more animals along the way:
Eventually we got to Watson Lake, home of Sign Post Forest:
After Sign Post Forest we continued on the Alcan Highway into the Yukon eventually making our way to Whitehorse where we are at now.
Our next plan is to head to Tombstone Territorial Park, then Dawson (A Mining Town) and over Top of the World Highway into Alaska. Somewhere along the way we may camp out. I probably won’t have service again until I get into Alaska and closer to Fairbanks.
